Configuring History ksh93 on FC2

Hello All I have downloaded ksh93 from the ATT download site and am running it on top of FC2. The only issue I am having so far concerns history. Under bash, something has been set up so that if I use the UP arrow key, the bash shell scrolls through the .sh_history file from last entry to first. In a similar manner, the DOWN arrow key navigates from the next entry in .sh_history. This behavior is not working under my ksh93 implementation though the hist shell built in is working. So, my questions are: * Does anyone know how the bash shell sets the UP arrow (and DOWN arrow for that matter) keys to cycle through the .sh_history file? * Does anyone know how I might be able to reproduce this behavior under ksh93? when do you really need a 64bit cpu?

when do you really need a 64bit cpu? So... I pose this question. When do you really need a 64bit CPU <other than the obvious potential need of a megasever needing the address space>? Most of the folks I know that have an Opteron or Athlon64 do not have any 64bit specific software, except maybe the Linux kernel compile. The Duron and Athlon32/Barton both seem to be replaced by the single Sempron32.

OT: vintage TV

I ran acrossed a Zenith TV from 1958, model c2358W chassis 18c20. I havent tested it but the unit itself looks to be in good condition (there is a dark stain on the top, and the knobs are worn.) It was said to be working the last time it was plugged in (over 20 years ago.) I was going to dump it, but thought I would see if there are any collectors of vintage electronics that might want to take it off my hands. I am located in Lee's Summit. Doese anyone have any experiance with the Dell inspirion line of laptops? Are they good/bad? How is Dell's service? (i've heard it sucks) TIA, Tim

I think I've figured out a set of commands using ecasound-2.3.5 and lame-3.96.1, taking in sound from /dev/dsp, which will let me record off Line-In for an exact period of minutes, create a raw PCM stream from that, and encode it on-the-fly into a MP3 file. 44.1Hz, 128k MP3 (all my MP3 players require 128k MP3), joint stereo. ecasound -b 512 -i /dev/dsp -o:stdout -t 120 | lame -r -x -mj -s44.1 --resample 44.1 -b128 --lowpass 15 --cwlimit 10 - /home/webgiant/PrairieHomeCompanion.mp3 --tt "A Prairie Home Companion" --ta "KCUR/NPR" I'm still working out the MP3 tag commands in LAME, as well as scripting the whole thing into using unique filenames so I could leave it for two weeks without overwriting the first week's recording. The ecasound -t command is where the "timed recording" comes in. The number is time in seconds, so "A Prairie Home Companion" requires 120 minutes times 60 seconds, or 7200. This kind of resource is helpful when it comes to deciding what language to start working in. TIOBE Programming Community Index for March 2005 http://www.tiobe.com/tpci.htm I've watched PHP slowly climb the ranks til it is now #4 where it will probably level out, although this map doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon: http://www.php.net/usage.php Whatever you do, learn SQL. All languages eventually have to use it in some form or another, and a LOT of dense logic can be packed into a quality SQL statement, meaning that if you get real good at SQL, you'll be able to jump quickly into any language because you can get SQL to do your data crunching. Anyway it does seem like J would be a cool language to learn on. Oddly, they had a long discussion a few weeks ago on their mailing list about a good programming language for beginners (which can be found in their mailing list archive on the same site) -- threads like that don't usually end up with one clear answer, but there were a lot of good comments. (He went quietly, while at his computer, working at programming) Over the last 20 years or so, he had shifted his focus to creating a new language, J, which doesn't require a special keyboard. www.Jsoftware.com has a downloadable compiler, loads of tutorials, free as in beer (not open source, different business model) and a very active mailing list. Also www.aplusdev.org has an Open Source implementation of APL. Apparently APL has survived in the financial services niche.
