most commonly used Linux version?

Again, these stats are suspect simply because they are from a relatively niche sample. No argument Ubuntu does great in non-paid space, but that ain't a sustainable business model. And in enterprise compute, I simply never hear of Ubuntu. So if I were to do a quick survey of that niche space it'd look awful for Canonical. There are three kinds of lies. The reason I said "depending on which report you read" is that "market share leadership" is such a nebulous term, it depends on how it's defined. Some reports I've seen say we have 85% of paid Linux revenue. Some reports say 55% of paid Linux server count. Still others say we're on 70% of all factory prepossessing of Linux. Frankly, I find all of these suspect for a slew of reasons from statistical accuracy to methodology to just plain common sense. Probably the closest thing to truth I can find - and even this is probably not the best yardstick - is revenue. Don't take my word for it, our 10K is public, as is Novell 's. Also Gartner and IDC have some decent data on things like server sales and OS sales. Go look at those. But the assertion that only managers and marketing types like RHEL, and real men like Debian is just absurd. What runs the NYSE? What does the FAA use to support the ~8000 planes in the air in US airspace every day? Hint: it ain't Debian. Puppy Linux as a Primary OS for daily use. It's been working for me

I've been very happy to discover that Puppy 5 has been a quite stable overall "Just works" daily use distro. Less so from trying HD installs on some hardware, but running from CD/DVD or Flashdrives seems to be a winner. Which seems nicely in keeping with my preferred mode of having the OS and Userdata on separate devices. Oh- there's a zone of having "some" archival stuff on the slack space of an OS device, but NEVER as the "only copy" of anything worth worrying about losing. That concept is incredibly NEAT to use easily due to how Puppy's Pmount utility displays drives on the desktop with a prominent green DOT to indicate a drive's mounted. Yeah- that's a small trivial seeming thing but it's an example of how Puppy's methods work for me. I keep a shoebox of older ~20- 250 gig drives around as archived buckets of "if I missed something" history and using the IDE>USB cable trick allows me to painlessly take a drive from the box-copy whatever is needed for a mule 'puter around here onto the drive and NOT worry about leaving space for an OS etc. Boring stuff like pictures of Catfish contests etc get set up as a slide show on a guest computer running Puppy from CD or an internal Flashdrive. For me personally, booting Puppy from a Flashdrive makes whatever 'puter I am sitting at closer to "Mine" than many other tricks I've used with "less" chance of leaving traces of even trivial data on whatever HD's are in the machine I'm using. Last I checked- writing to an UNMOUNTED drive's not a worry eh? More details going up on my blog..

So what level of hardware (and expenditure) do I really need to get smooth, full-screen, HD playback of flash video? (I've been chasing this since the 90's, and the answer has always been MOAR!)

Gnome configuration question

OK, so I have a desktop and a laptop that are both running 64-bit Fedora 14. The desktop has three screens and is using Xinerama, the laptop only has one... I would really like to copy my gnome configurations from the desktop to the laptop - allowing me to (hopefully) have a seamless experience between the two machines. If possible, I would even like to copy the packages (and their configs) from one machine to another and then set up some way to sync them during the day... I'm not looking to make a major project out of doing this, just wanting to know if either part is feasible and if there are any (relatively) simple ways of going about it w/out totally borking one machine or the other. Sound Recording Issue in Fedora 14 with MythTV 0.24

I have been experiencing a sound issue in F14 with MythTV 0.24. The sound is similar to something out of an old radio (non-stereo). This issue did not exist in F12 with 0.23. I have attached a 9MB clip for those that care to offer suggestions and opinions (all are welcome). http://pjcrux.amahi.me/Public/The%20Ten%20Commandments-1.mpg I have checked the settings in alsamixer as well as the settings in MythTV and everything appears correct. Is there somewhere else I could be looking or haven't thought to look? This machine is the backend for all of my frontends in the house. My HW setup is as follows: Fedora 14 DVD x86_64 MythTV 0.24 (via RPMFusion) AMD Phenom x3 2.3GHz 8GB DDR2-800 Asus M3N78-Pro WD 160GB (for OS) Seagate 1.5TB (for videos) Samsung 1TB (For files) PVR-500 Hauppauge Looking for any kind of help.
