Just got the distribution upgrade notice in Update Manager today. All download files are available now. I usually download one of the installation CDs or DVDs instead of upgrading online. I use this mirror: http://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs-Ubuntu/precise/ (Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, IL) I managed to get the whole 64-bit trial version CD before I could finish pulling together this announcement, getting about 90% my full capability, up to 1.3 MB/sec over 12 mb/sec vdsl. Don't forget to use bit torrent if your subscription's monthly data quota isn't capped. i.e., AT&T Uverse and AT&T DSL. Download also available , probably really slow for now (if a connection can even be made), at: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ Main web site provides download links to many more download options http://www.ubuntu.com/

Remote Interactive Whiteboard (Projector+Camera)

I'm looking for software that can use a projector to "illuminate a whiteboard" with white light. Then let local or remote computer users "draw" on the whiteboard by masking the projected white with black or color. Local users could still use dry-erase markers too, and It needs to be able to take snapshots of the board, compositing the real world markings and digital markings (Though a still of the remote video would work). Has anything like this been polished at least to the 50% stable mark? What projects should I look at? That laser-grafitti program is similar to what I want, except I'm fine with the only digital input being a mouse cursor. The only need I have for the camera, is so that local dry-erase markings can be shared/captured. I'm also looking for suggestions for GNU video-switching software. Attach 4-6 usb cameras, and mics. Then mix all audio, and tile all video, until one mike is X percent louder than the rest, which would cause its corresponding camera to go fullscreen.

Xen. KVM, network bridging and multiple nics

Objective: I'm installing XEN on a server I'm building. The server has two NICs, and will have a dual connection to the Internet, with 5 fixed used IP addresses. I plan to run 3 guests. One of those guests will use two IPs , hopefully. Reading the KVM documentation (I'm also considering KVM, if XEN doesn't work out) and the XEN documentation leaves me a bit confused on the network bridging. The XEN documentation seems to indicate you NEED to have two NICs to do this. The KVM documentation seems to indicate you need to bridge in order for the guests to be network visible. But what I want to do is make sure that either one or both NICs are visible to any given guest. So can I bridge, both NICs independently? Or merge them into one fatter pipe? Or something else. This thread should be archived and perhaps even Data Mined for the collection of "Sanity Savers" in it. If challenged to list a single point? I'd have to make it a tie for two. The two being reference to those "endorphin moments" and the *grimoire*concept. The endorphin rush of getting the Zen inherent in .nix realms is addictive. The *grimoire is that which increases those moments!* I spent an inordinate time trying to retrocreate the missing site documentation/manuals for a recent contract. A contract that would have been effortless joy to have worked. Had only my predecessor kept a "site grimoire" chained to the server rack! The comments about meaningful names and comment are not of mere pain/joy importance for all the code we write or systems we set up, Those concepts are beyond mere ease of situation to the "next person" working something. They're arguably a totally Pass or EPIC FAIL level importance. And the "Why?" of it becomes of even more grim import, Do every task as if you will be that "next person" working the aftermath. As often, you will BE that next person.
