New Meeting Location?
by Jim Herrmann 12 Nov '07

12 Nov '07

I am sitting at Paul & Jacks in North Kansas City. They now have Wi-fi! I tested it and got 5M down and 500K up, so it's a very good connection. They have food and drinks including beer! They are open until at least 10:00 p.m., but are willing to stay open longer if we have enough people. They also have a back room that will seat at least 16 people at the table. I'm thinking we should consider moving our meeting here. It's a nice place with a fast internet connection, and did I mention that they serve beer! Not to mention the killer tenderloin and awesome chili. We can discuss at tomorrow's meeting. Peace, Jim

Free HP Deskjet 712C w/ ink
by David Ambs 12 Nov '07

12 Nov '07

Anyone want this? There's 3 black and 3 colored cartridges with it, expired though, but within a year or so. The wife used this printer for years, then it started printing her address labels off by like 1/8" so she wanted a new one, haha. It works great otherwise, and with extra ink, how can ya go wrong? Let me know if ya want it, or else it goes on craigslist. Btw, it should work in Linux just fine with cups, although I can't say I've done such in a long time. -dave 0xFA904573

I will be at the next meeting on the 20th and we can discuss everything then. Until then, if I see a bunch of cars sitting in the parking lot out front with people on laptops, I'll know it's from the list. :) Phillip C. Meeting Location Change
by Julie 09 Nov '07

09 Nov '07

I'm so sorry. I don't know how to answer a particular post so I'm having to submit a new one. I think that moving the meeting spot should take into consideration more factors than just "BEER". Personally, I'm not interested in attending a "beer bash". I try to attend the LUG meetings in an attempt to LEARN...although I've been stifled by the lack of ownership of a suitable laptop at present. [Laptop = DIFFERENT SUBJECT ;) ] I like the idea of the North KC spot but it seems to be a bit small as sometimes more than 16 people show up. Parking is another consideration. The other suggestion mentioned where someone works. Exactly WHERE is this located in the metro area? As the Real Estate industry says, "Location, Location, Location" is what is important. LOL!!! Thanks for putting up with me. Julie @};- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Oxygen, webservices and Opensource
by Jack 09 Nov '07

09 Nov '07

I have some questions for the list. Does anyone know anything about the folks at WSO (wso.org and .com)? Are these guys really opensource people or what? Are there any shops around town doing reasonable rates training in IT skills, especially related to OSS? Anyone doing any webservices in Linux using WSDL 2, DIME (obsolete), MTOM? And why does debian include php-net-dime but there isn't and equivalent php-net-mtom? For those people like me who hate all the @#$!!@ abbreviations used today. WSDL = Web Services Definition Language MTOM = SOAP Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism DIME = an abondoned MS supported standard which MTOM has superceded. Brian
