I tend to park under the lights, as the creepy, slithering creatures of the night tend to bother the people parked in more remote places (a truck alarm is a good idea). Anyway, I also started to find a fair number of "free" wireless connections at truck stops. Avoid truckstop.net for wireless service. They are historically inconsistent, and the company is currently suing Sprint, saying Sprint failed to properly install hot spots, and Sprint is withholding service until they get paid. BTW, I run my appliances, including the laptop, off of a power inverter. There are many ways to do this correctly, and many ways to fry your truck's electrical system, or your appliances, or both. See your truck dealer for details, or go to an old, well established C.B. shop. Some of the better ones sell power inverters, satellite TV, and other good things, and know how to install them properly if you don't. Still, a Kenworth, Freightliner or Peterbilt ... or whatever dealer, may be the most qualified to assist you with your power needs. Good luck and safe travels! SLES 9 xscreensaver dual head

Anyone running SLES 9 with dual head support and xscreensaver? If so, could you forward your .xscreensaver file from your home directory to me? Alternatively, does anyone know what jiggery-pokery to put in the .xscreensaver file to cause it to run two different screensavers simultaneously, one on each head? -- Dave Hull http://insipid.com

All the ones I based that idea on use a regular atx power supply and something like those $20.00 harbor freight "tool cases". although I would plan on a better case. > I think I would rather have a briefcase computer. Compaq servers can also be purchased with Linux on them right? Compaq is now part of HP so you'd get all that Linux expertise with it. Compaq servers are, from what I hear the best choice for servers out there. We have a few here and I got to say, I wish I could afford one. I tend to agree here. Dell wants to be on the Linux bandwagon, but only if ... Kind of like the guy sitting on the fence to see which of two fighting groups gets the upperhand. I think they are going to commit to being Linux supporters ... someday. For me that day may already be too late and bringing too little with it. For a guy who started out working out of a college Dorm, he's become entrenched and tunnel-visioned. Not to mention arrogant. (Heard this guy speak lately? I talked to him once, one on one, at a convention in Vegas. I came away feeling cold, with a bitter taste in my mouth. I haven't liked the idea of owning a Dell since. Dual-Booting XP?

Is there an issue with using Lilo (or Grub) to dual boot with XP? I've never had any trouble with NT, although I didn't bother to skip the NTLoader, so I had two boot managers running at startup if I chose NT. I prefer Lilo to Grub, it's easy for me to understand, and I love the ability to change defaults permanently or temporarily from the command line (lilo -R windows;shutdown -r now).

I used to use a Norton Desktop on older Windows which gave me a similar effect. So I guess that would fall under better usability, at least for me. So I guess the way I feel about Linux could be extended to OSS in general. 1) More stable than older versions of Windows (they've gotten a lot better in recent years). 2) Freedom (freedom to: think, choose, from nauseating legalalities, use, share) 3) Safety from viruses and worms. 4) The community in general. Politically? Hmm... conservative-liberal-"social-democratic"-empowerist(?) or something like that. (basically I tend more away from the right (my liberal part) but not entirely, and not everything on the left appeals to me either (my conservative part), yet I feel that we are responsible for taking take of our fellow beings (my social- democratic part) while still making people responsible for their own actions (my empowerist part - for lack of a better term)). See if you can pigeonhole that one. Oh sure I could say liberal and be done with it, but it wouldn't really fit me. Brian Densmore

You might check out Gnomoradio, which let's you listen to MP3s on other users PCs. I use Shoutcast.com for my main site to find web radio. A lot or most of the others were shut down 2 years ago by RIAA. Brian Kelsay

Don't know if this will help, but my brother (a retired EE with AT&T) thinks it's the adaptor. Probably a failed capacitor. MythTV

I've finally struggled through the mysql (no prior experience) portion of setting up a MythTV system and am now having issues with a new Hauppauge PVR-250. I have the program guide working, can run mythtvsetup, access all the menus, etc. Unfortunately, if I choose "Watch TV" all I get is channel 4. Any attempt to change channels fails, which causes me to suspect that my tuner is incorrectly defined... or the module is not loading correctly...
