Independently evaluates and solves advanced network problems. Assumes lead responsibilities in providing guidance and training to less experienced staff and directs staff activities, as requested. Develops, implements, and maintains departmental procedures to ensure network security and integrity. Key Activities Configures, installs, and supports Cisco routers and switches as well as other network transport devices. Independently completes complex communication hardware configuration and implementation. Provides advanced technical support functions for network design activities. Leads and guides less experienced staff in this effort. Performs in-depth analysis of multiple factors to provide advanced network system troubleshooting quickly and independently for complex communications issues. Conducts feasibility studies and develops requests for proposal (RFPs) for communication projects of high priority and complexity. May direct less experienced staff in this effort. Plans and/or leads large scale communications projects of high priority and complexity. Acts as a front-line interface to other technical support teams. Works with other technical support teams to provide a stable network environment. Works with central Information Technology organizations to provide Internet and wide area network (WAN) connectivity. Monitors processes and logs of network equipment. Provides guidance and training to less experienced staff. Manages and documents change using a standard change management system. May lead long-range planning efforts and help define the technical direction of communication networks. Performs other duties as may be assigned. Qualifications Associate’s degree specializing in information systems, technology, or equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree specializing in information systems, technology, or equivalent work experience preferred. At least five years of experience supporting, planning, designing, and implementing communications networks. Advanced Cisco certifications are preferred. In-depth knowledge of various network technologies such as OSPF, Ethernet, IP Telephone, VoIP, QoS, and TCP/IP. Knowledge of project management principles and standards; previous practical experience preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Good leadership skills.

I did this and was just about to proclaim you the winner, as the machine booted up with 8 gigs! But then I noticed the video card was forcing things to a lower resolution (power saving maybe?)...and when I plugged in a couple of things that hadn't been hooked up yet (speakers and network cable), the machine locked up. Dang. Well, 4 gigs is 4 times better than the 1 gig I had before. The computer is now comfortable to use. Anybody wanna buy the 4 gigs I won't be using? I'll throw in a set of two 512 meg sticks as well. :-) $20 for all...they're all confirmed to work if your machine can pump up the power. Weird memory issue

I just got four 2GB memory modules for my computer (running on 1 GB was starting to try my patience). These were destined for the four slots on my motherboard (Intel DG965RY). These combinations produce a happily working machine: any one DIMM in any slot any two DIMMs in any two slots any three DIMMs in any three slots This combination produces a machine that can't get as far as the BIOS power-on self test: all four DIMMs in all four slots It fires up the fans and stuff for about five seconds, then shuts off. Then it waits about five seconds, and fires up again...and it repeats the cycle, endlessly, until I pull the plug. Has anyone seen this sort of thing before? All of the DIMMs and all of the slots have been proven to work in isolation or combinations up to three...it's just when I try to use all four at once that it conks out. Kendric Beachey

Sounds like your power supply can't power all four memory modules or your MB is bad. It is *mostly* possible, but a ton of work. You have to build apple's gcc, which is no fun on another OS. Also as stated you must copy those frameworks. iOS application on Linux

Anyone know if one can write AND deploy iOS applications from Linux? Anyone ever used PhoneGap in Linux? Best iPhone/iPad emulator? Cheap Apple development box? I'm putting together some lesson plans for my grandson, who "says" he might want to become a game coder. Not sure he's going to love seeing all that applied Math and Physics though. Thanks, Jack

Trinity-desktop

I tried out the Trinity Desktop Project this weekend on Debian Lenny. Trinity is an attempt to continue development and bugfixes on KDE3 for distributions that are moving to KDE4. I would not recommend it on Lenny. It didn't make a DM entry for the old KDE, it preserved but did not import user settings. Kmail kept crashing, and I could not run the old kmail remotely over ssh. On removing all the trinity packages (aptitude purge ~ntrinity), kdm had problems determining what session to start. Fortunately, I was able to go through it's session menu and get back to the old KDE.

Linux-friendly bluetooth dongle?

This month's Linux Journal has an article about making your computer auto-lock when you leave your desk, and auto-unlock when you return, by sensing the leaving/returning of the bluetooth phone in your pocket. (You DO take your mobile phone with you....don't you??) We have a few jokesters around here that make this sound like a good idea. But neither my desktop nor my laptop have built-in bluetooth, at least not anything Ubuntu 11.10 can find. Does anyone know of a good bluetooth dongle that works well with Linux?
