For me, syntax highlighting is all I need in a code editor. But [g]vim is so modular that you can add cool stuff in based on what you need.

I prefer several nedit windows with one or two Eterms and a browser (Opera). I played with Bluefish/nvu for a while, but it took up too much screen real estate. It is very nice for creating XHTML pages and forms quickly that are fully standards compliant.
