Hi Chris -
We have a couple of open slots in our on-floor theater sessions and the Event Director and I thought that the Linux Group might be interested in presenting in one of those. The times are in the afternoon and are 45 minute sessions. It can be on any topic that you feel appropriate for the audience as long as it isn't specifically about one company or vendor. These are normally paid slots, but we would not charge KCLUG for the session.
Let me know if you are interested and I can get all the details for you - and then you have something extra special to promote to your member list!

Hmm. "Experiences with Linux open forum" and do a free form, anarchic Q&A?

And maybe a real-time install session going all the while? Couldn't do a Gentoo Stage 1, but...

Ugh! That certainly wouldn't be the kind of install demo that I would recommend even if time did allow. Not that it would be great for a bunch of hard-core geeks, but I suspect all hardcore geeks have already done a Gentoo Stage 1 install by now. ;')
However a productivity demonstration might not be bad. Perhaps scanning in a logo, sticking in a letter, creating a letter, and doing a mail-merge. Or creating a presentation using Impress or KPresenter. With Massachussetts now going to OpenDoc format, perhaps a demonstration of various Office Apps sharing an OpenDoc document? Perhaps even ... dare I say it ... a Windows machine running an OpenDoc capable Office App and sharing between systems?
BTW, do we need people/stuff to help out at the booth/whatever? I could help out, but would need to arrange daycare.

Or "A Discussion of Live Linux CDs and DVDs" and hand quite a few out.

Maybe someone should write Canonical and ask for a shipment of the new 5.10CDs. They should be released very soon, and just about in time for ITEC. I'm sure they'd love to have a large conference with business who might even *pay* for support trying their latest release out.

Another thought: A discussion of all of the various OSS cross-platform applications (OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc.) to encourage companies to think about Linux for their desktop solutions, or at least about converting their existing Windows solutions into Linux solutions.
After all, Microsoft Vista is going to be a pain upgrade for a lot of companies, especially with 7 versions to choose from, all with different licensing schemes.

Interesting idea. CoLinux might be just the thing for the corporate crowd.
Then again, what would they use it for? Demonstrating the new cross-platfom OSS applications seems to me to have a wider appeal than showing how one can run Linux alongside Windows.
CoLinux certainly qualifies for the "it is really neat and cool" category, but does it really provide an answer to "but why should we try it?" :)
