Quick question - what is the proper pronunciation for "Cygwin?"
I say "Sig-Win."
thats how I say it...doesnt mean its proper though.

I can't think of any words in the language that have a short 'y' sound in the first syllable so I say "sigh-gwin".

Other than Cygnus? Cygnus Solutions originally made Cygwin (before Red Hat bought them). Cygnus is pronounced 'sig-n&s according to m-w.com, so I'd assume Cygwin is pronounced accordingly.

Well its spelled "C-Y-G-W-I-N", but its pronounced "Throat-Wobbler-Mangrove". :)
