Troubleshooting my system
I have a radio all-in-one 9600 with two monsters, a westing house LCD, as primary screen and a viewsonic A70 as the extension.. It seems to work just about right with the exception the when the muse goes from screen the LCD screen tot e CRT it turns into a purple block. I have also noticed that when I watching A DVD and I try to put it on the CRT side it fails to render the video. I did the google warrior and the best I could come up was the reconfiguration of the Xorg, Below is what it currently looks like, Anyone clue me into what Ii may have missed

Well, when I'm dueling with monitors, I usually care more about how quickly I can swing them back and forth, not what's on the screen. That said, Try with Option "VideoOverlay" "off" or Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "yes" on the one that isn't working at the moment. I'm just guessing because I've never had that problem before.

All I can say is that I had the same problem with my X800XL in dual mode. I figured it was a driver issue with ATI. Sorry I'm not much more help than that.

My solution was to just stick to NVIDIA. I had an ATI problem, but it wasn't the same thing you have. NVIDIA has much better linux support than ATI.

Good news is that AMD says they're going to open-source drivers for the ATI cards, so that might change dramatically: http://enterpriselinuxlog.blogs.techtarget.com/2007/05/09/amd-will-deliver-o...

ATi already makes commits to the Free r300 driver...
Turns out acceleration works on my old 600MHz iBook too. It's got an ATI Mobility Radeon with 16MB VRAM in it on an AGP bus and on a whim I enabled desktop effects in Ubuntu 7.04. To my surprise it worked right off. Of course there are no proprietary drivers for ATI on PPC. The effects worked ok, especially considering the old chipset and slow CPU. I turned it off after a while, of course, because who wants to be eating up CPU time and power on a battery operated system...

What there are, of course, are the Apple/*BSD drivers that ATI must provide if Apple is going to use their hardware. Simplest way for ATI to handle this is to just contribute to the OS BSD drivers and make sure they pass Apple's muster.
While Apple continues to release closed, OS unfriendly, lawsuit-as-a-business-model software, their choice of a BSD OS as the basis for their system has had some positive consequences from those of running actually Open systems.

I'm afraid I can't let that slip. Device drivers are substantially different from operating system to operating system, as I'm sure you're aware. But XNU, Apple's kernel for OS X, is not "BSD". OS X is "BSD" by way of a BSD compatibility layer for user space applications, similar to how NeXT before it, and mach before that, to shim in support for a larger set of existing programs. So for most cases, OSX is BSD enough.
Video drivers are a difference case, however. They need direct access to several aspects of their hardware for efficiency and correctness's sake. And how they are written differ in many ways. Apple's system is C++ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I/O_Kit) based, which is radically different than BSD drivers just based on language alone. What you're suggesting is the equivalent of improving the Linux nVidia drivers by making their Vista drivers open source.
But hey, if you can convince Apple that BSD drivers will help OSX, more power to you.

I forgot to put that I was running that in Ubuntu 7.04 PPC. Acceleration works just peachy under OS X as-is.

As far as legal drivers go, nVidia has *no* support. ATis up to the X850 work great, though :)
