Way back when this thread started, I tried to ask this question, but the reply only went to the sender, so I'll try again: One of the desired features of the windows editor in question was column editing; does anybody know if vim has this capability and, if so, how to call
it?

You can also use the mouse to select "blocks" of text, if you're using the gui.
