Mesh networking could be good if you don't have a direct line to a regular connection. On it's own, with certain applications it can be useful but for Joe Public it's not going to do much. Any GameBoy users wanna chime in about finding other users on the mesh system? ;) I can see mesh having good effects in areas without infrastructure but in any developed are when you can have a direct IP link it's not worth trying if you just want net access. AFAIK a mesh won't do anything about anonymity as you still have the hardware IDs needed for regular routing (MAC) so you still opn yourself to being ID'd if not using encryption.
