Got an ancient server that runs primarily as a Samba/FTP setup (intra-LAN for the former, remote access for the latter). It's been rock solid running Ubuntu server, until. well, yesterday. Now I get timeouts, lack of accessibility from the LAN, etc. Rebooting fixes things, but only temporarily.
In my experience, a Linux server should run like the day it was installed...except when the power supply starts to go or memory gets flaky. If you are free this weekend, I have an oscilloscope that we can check for noise on the power supply. And we can check the memory with a copy of memtest86+. A bad CPU can be checked by compiling a kernel as gcc is good by kicking out a "signal 11 buss error" if it stumbles on a math error.
This is a paying gig - if you're available immediately, send me a short email with 1-2 sentences about your experience and your hourly rate. I can pay via PayPal, credit card or old-fashioned, drive-the-check-to-you means.
I'm free this weekend. No charge, my employer pays me well!
