I would disagree with that statement. Specially when it comes to Linux. nVidia I believe is much better supported in the Linux world.\

You'll want to be careful about WiFi and video chipsets. Not sure on the WiFi, but be sure you don't get an nVidia chipset if you need 3D performance.
