Unless those DC rack supplies are ten times more expensive to replace and more likely to fail than a server power supply and harder to find.
In which case, the claims they make on their web site and in their ads are fraudulent and illegal! Quick, call Luke Jr!

Another consideration is that this would effectively put 42 machines on the same 12v rail, and the same 5v and so on. So if a component in one machine failed in such a way that it shorted across that rail, it would take all devices on the rail down unless they each had individual load breakers for each rail.
You don't suppose this occurred to them?
Seriously, guys, have a look at the web site and see if maybe they've addressed your speculation before you raise objections that they've already covered.
These things are real, they've been selling for several years, and they're not a myth or a rube goldberg contraption. The company has numbers that say they save significant operating costs, so they must be doing something right.
Not having priced them, not having an operating budget that includes power, cooling, and maintenance for a site, I don't know if they save enough to pay for the hardware.
The _ONE_ objection I see is if you buy their system, you're locked in to buying replacements and upgrades from them, since there isn't a standard - yet. Having delivered enough very expensive RAID cards that became unavailable within the MBTF for the cards, that would be a major objection for me.
