I've found that Kansas charges more income tax that Missouri. Don't live or work in Kansas City, Missouri. If you do they will charge you a 1% city income tax right off the top.
Probably true, although both are kind of a drop in the bucket compared to the Feds. My main advice would be not to live in one state and work in the other, because in that case they both pull money out of your paycheck, and at tax time you get to fill out extra forms to persuade one of them to give some of your money back.
That said, I've lived on both sides and prefer Kansas (specifically Johnson County). Yes, the property taxes are higher, but you can easily see what they get used for. When I lived on the Missouri side I *wished* I could send them a little extra money if it'd just get those dang roads fixed! (Plus the sales tax is higher in KCMO so they do get you either way.)
