I haven't announced anything there in six months, but here is the announcements mailing list page for "Xenan" which is currently envisioned as an instance of a "pit" in the Tipjar Ledgers universe. There's also a dev list which I would be glad to add you to if you would like to assist with making my still-unfunded first wave dot-com project something more solid than a dismissable old guy ranting about his status as a never-was also-ran. https://groups.google.com/g/xenan-announce -- "Plot complication appearing on sensors now"

RE: Anyone up for a meetup?

I'd suggest maybe the KC Library branch just south of the Plaza may be better as it has better (easier) parking than the Downtown KCMO one.. -----Original Message----- From: Brent Kirkpatrick <brentk(a)midwaytrucks.com> Sent: Jan 12, 2026 12:12 PM To: Gilmore, Steve <Steve.Gilmore(a)garmin.com>, kclug(a)kclug.org <kclug(a)kclug.org> Subject: RE: Anyone up for a meetup? I’d be interested. I live in Lee’s Summit but would be willing to drive downtown or to KS for a meetup. From: Gilmore, Steve <Steve.Gilmore(a)garmin.com> Sent: Monday, January 12, 2026 12:05 PM To: kclug(a)kclug.org Subject: Anyone up for a meetup? Hi everyone, It’s been a while, and I’ve been meaning to reconnect and check in with the group. Would anyone be interested in restarting meetups for the KC Linux Users Group? I’d be happy to help get things going again and could even host a meetup. I’m located in the Blue Springs area, but I’m open to ideas on format, location, and timing. If folks are worried about meetings getting stale, I’m also willing to put together a short presentation or discussion to spark conversation. A few ideas that come to mind: * Running LLMs locally with vLLM * Ansible tips, tricks, and more advanced usage * “We’re (probably) all still noobs at Git” (a judgment-free discussion) * The wonderful blasphemy that is the Xonsh shell This doesn’t need to be formal, just a chance to get together, share what we’re working on, and rebuild some momentum. If you’re interested, reply here and let’s see what kind of interest we have. Looking forward to hearing from you, Steve G CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: This email and any attachments are for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and contain information that may be Garmin confidential and/or Garmin legally privileged. Logwatch Report
by Jonathan Hutchins 17 Jan '26

17 Jan '26

I don't usually pay attention to the logwatch reports, but today I notice that there are a huge number of failed login attempts directed at the list. My mail system truncates the message, but it's pages and pages of hits. I debated forwarding the whole message to the list, but that seems wasteful. If you're looking into this and you are not on the CC addresses (root(a)debian.kclug.org) please let me know if you want to see the log. -- Jonathan

DMARC
by Jonathan Hutchins 17 Jan '26

17 Jan '26

I can send mail to my GMail account, but it does flag DMARK/DKIM as failed. (The amount of garbage they stuff into the headers is just crazy. 3+ pages of encoded foo for a one line message.) -- Jonathan

KCLUG Mail

I just started getting these this evening. I did a few updates a couple of days ago (announced here), nothing changed by me. If someone's working on this, please back your last change out and let me know if you need access to logs or something. -- Jonathan

Another thing that may also need to be enabled are the DMARC Mitigations. I have noticed many of the emails are going to my spam folder, possibly because of DMARC and DKIM failing. It seems like some of the messages are even not being delivered/forwarded (probably when the DMARC record policy is set to reject). What we have is an in-house build of mailman that is decades old. It appears to work. I haven't checked the archiving system, but basic mail-to-list works. Also, we are not a legal entity and have no budget at all. Our hosting is generously provided by NetStandard. -- Jonathan

Hello everyone, This is great to see, thanks for the enthusiasm and ideas! To try to split the difference on location and get something on the calendar, let’s plan to meet at Johnson County Library – Leawood Pioneer. Details: * Location: Johnson County Library – Leawood Pioneer 4700 Town Center Dr, Leawood, KS 66211 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/LX8WPLxPKcaKtiCK7) * Date: Thursday, January 22, 2026 * Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM I’ve reserved a conference room that can accommodate up to 16 people, which should be a good size for getting things restarted. We can always adjust locations or scale up for future meetups based on interest. The librarian mentioned the room doesn’t have a projector, but I’ll bring one along with something to project onto so we can do show-and-tell, short presentations, or even some group troubleshooting if folks are interested. For this first meetup back, let’s keep things informal; introductions, catching up, and seeing what people would like to do going forward. Gaming on Linux, development workflows, tooling, and beginner-friendly topics all sound very much on the table. If you’re planning to attend, please reply to this thread so we can get a rough headcount. Looking forward to seeing everyone again and getting the group moving! I do now live in Lawrence, so KC is a bit far to travel for me. One thing that I am really into is gaming on Linux (this has gotten so much better in the last year)! Can you believe it? There is talk of Linux being at 9% usage for day to day tasks!! This means that there are lots of people who would benefit from our group that are still really new to our community. I personally have been on Linux as my main system for a few years now. Of course, I used UNIX and FreeBSD professionally and currently run Fedora (43) on a 5 year old Dell Workstation with a borrowed NVIDIA 4060 GPU. The fact that my Dell 3630 feels "zippy" is testament to how even a "potato" can be a very useful daily driver. FYI, it is only a 4 core, 4 thread I7 with 32GB of RAM. But it runs Steam quite well and I use it for development purposes using C++, Rust, Python, TypeScript and other languages. I recently even put a full graphics suite on it without Adobe being part of it. There is so much to share regarding my own journey. Let's nail something down and meet up again. For me the meetings were part of the fun, but the meeting after the meeting was where friendships were forged! Sorry for the novel of a post, but it is great if we can get everything going again!
