TCP experts - improving dial-up performance?

Hi All, Yeah, so I have dial-up. Stop laughing. :) I would like some advice on making the best of my slow dial-up connection. Systems Administrator contract position

We are looking for a Systems Administrator for a 3 month contract with the possibility of converting to permanent. Ideal candidates would have experience with Linux (RedHat), Apache, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, BigIP LTM, TCP/IP, iptables, ethernet cabling, and fiber channel storage. I am getting in to this a little late but I hope to encourage you to have your friend try out... http://vinuxproject.org/ Which runs on a live CD so your friend could try it without changing the current setup till she determines if it is acceptable. Also I found http://the-brannons.com/edbrowse/philosophy.html which describes a project by a blind programmer. I do not know if 'edbrowse' comes on the live CD or not. The Going Linux podcast has some good resources for blind users. In episode 117, they interview a blind linux user who builds and sells systems. He discusses his system setup and additional resources. I was recently referred to a skills testing site, proveit.com. They have a number of Linux skills tests available - all of which can only be taken in Internet Explorer running on Windows. It occurs to me that yes, there is a world where all the admins run Windows and manage their Linux systems and servers with putty, or more likely vnc or a web interface. I say android is the most common linux(not just server or desktop), but that's a pretty wild guess.
