Wacom Bamboo Tablet

I got my daughter a Wacom Bamboo tablet for Christmas. It works, and we figured out how to get pressure sensitivity working in GIMP, so it's fairly useful. However, the eraser doesn't seem to work, and there are also extra buttons on the Bamboo that don't seem to do anything in linux. The configuration information on the intertubes seems to be obsolete, like 2005ish. X is no longer configured with etc/X11/xorg.conf apparently. This is on Ubuntu 8.10. I concur. I had to do so to get the video on an old Armada 7800 working with X on 8.xx Ubuntu. Jon. On a related note, are there any substantial and significant reasons not to just run stock kernels at this point?

I have a Gibabyte EP43-DSL3 motherboard for sale. Dual Channel DDR2 (1200) 4 Slots, FSB 800-1600MHz, Intel P43 Chipset, PCI Espress 16 slot (Graphics), 4 PCI Ex1 slots, 2 PCI Slots, 6 SATA, 1 IDE, 12 USB, Realtec ALC888 audio w/S/PDIF I/O & 5.1 Speaker Jacks, Realtec 8111C Network 10/100/1000. Supports Core2 duo & quad. Probably has other cool stuff, you can check it out on the web. The chipset was too new for any of the Linux installers I had (early 2008 releases), but is probably supported by late 2008/pre-2009 releases. I fell back to the previous model board and it works fine under Debian Etch. (XP & Vista supported, of course.) Paid $119.99 @ Micro Center earlier this year, will take $80. Best to contact me off-list as the list is filtered.

How to remove unused configs from kernel?

I ran Steven Rostedt's streamline.pl script to remove unloaded modules from the current .config. It removed over 300 unused modules from having to be compiled, saving much space and time: http://rostedt.homelinux.com/code/streamline_config.pl.txt But much more can be done. Is there an easy way to detect unused kernel code from the running kernel and de-config it? I'm sure there's a lot of bloat in my kernel that never gets executed. -=Duane http://www.dattaway.net

Merry Christmas -- for some

Gentlemen: After having my home repossessed (like many other Americans), I ended up for two weeks at the Restart shelter in E downtown KC. The experience there . . . well I can only describe it this way: If I were a survivor of the Holocaust, I wouldn't wish it on the Nezis. I've spent the last 6 weeks at the Salvation Army shelter in St. Joseph, and was ordered to leave today just after lunch. Why? Simple respect, and the lack thereof. Remember this story when you see the bellringers over their kettles -- some of their fold don't understand and practice what they claim. I wish all of you LUG nuts and others who aren't afraid to walk a different walk than the rest of the US a glorious and wonderful Christmas and New Year's holiday. I ask that you keep in mind that many aren't as well off as us, and instead of giving them a handout, a hand up would be appreciated, even if it seems small and inconsequential. And happy Channukah, and Merry Kwanza to those who have slightly different beliefs. May next year be brighter than this year. Gary Hildebrand [homeless] St. Joseph, MO
