Midrange Web Browser? (between Firefox and Dillo)
by Leo Mauler 04 Oct '08

On the desktop PCs the slight bloat of Firefox doesn't cause a problem, while giving me lots of fun Firefox features. However, my much older laptop with its limited RAM (192MB) isn't as much fun with Firefox. Dillo is already on DamnSmallLinux and does display webpages, but I was wondering if there was a web browser, on the "free software" rack, with slightly more functionality than Dillo but still not as big as Firefox.

Reiser FS or ext3?
by gary hildebrand 02 Oct '08

I have a couple older distros of SuSE -- 6.4 & 7.2 and was wondering if there is an easy way to do it with a journaling FS? Whenever I'd get a hit/crash in ext2, it would sorta eat itself up, and then over a period of time, become unuseable. 6.4 has a wide variety of packages no longer available on the new distros, and I'd like to have a drive set up so I can boot it when wanted. Isn't it obvious? ;-) The residents of the Yucca Mountain area might wish they'd take a more Superman IV-inspired approach to their cargo selection. I'd say grinding a hard drive into a fine powder is probably enough to prevent it from doing any damage upon disposal. That said, you might also aim it at Europa and see if life erupts, given the new (albeit highly localized) heat source at the rocket's impact site. Is this topic [OT] yet? -Sean

WRT54GL

I am getting a Linksys WRT54GL today as my old WRK54G seems to be giving up the ghost. Has anyone on the list had any experience with running any of the non-Linksys firmware on this Router (DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Tomato, etc.) that they would care to share? Thanks, Gene

Shredder?

Shredders don't like metal, but there are things that'll make quick work of a drive: http://www.networkworld.com/news/2006/062706-guard-dog.html The Air Force seemed to think a 1-2 punch was in order, according to Cryptome: "2.5. Destruction. It is a good practice to sanitize media before submitting it for destruction. Media may generally be destroyed by one of the following methods (see Table 2.1). (*NOTE*: Although approved methods, options d and e use acid, which is dangerous and excessive, to remove recording surfaces. Options a, b, and c are recommended over d and e.)
