This happens to me all the time, its the sound system not recognizing amarok because its buggy (or something like that.) What you need to do is play a video file in totem, because that somehow makes the sound pop back on again. I have Kubuntu Dapper 6.06 AMD64 at home and have loaded/ran Easyubuntu in order to get added repos, multimedia, etc. I have system sounds working and I get audio and video from a DVD playing in the drive, but .mp3 files give no sound when played in Amarok. Crweb had me install some lib stuff that should have added support, but "w32codecs" said it had no installation target, like it had changed it's name. He linked me to a .deb, which wouldn't install because it was meant for i386 and not x64. Graphics files

Not sure where to start with this, but at least I am NOT high jacking another thread!!! (grin) I have been having trouble viewing media files in Email. I get a lot of stuff from friends and family that has audio or video files, and I would like to be able to play an occasional MP3 file but none of that seems to work and I can't find any reference to what works well now. I upgraded to FC4 a few months ago and have been too busy to do a full investigation so a few pointers would be really helpful. I am running the Mozilla suite for Email and surfing and have installed flash and adobe, but not sure what works best for audio and video. What is everyone using these days and what is the best way to install it so I don't spend days buggering something else up? .//

I would like to announce the start of a new asterisk user group here in Kansas City. Right now it's primarly just a mailing list, but if there is enough interest we will probably start doing meetings and the like. You can find information about the group at http://www.kcaug.net/. If you are completely unfamilier with Asterisk here's a snippet from asterisk.org: Asterisk is a complete PBX in software. It runs on Linux, BSD and MacOSX and provides all of the features you would expect from a PBX and more. Asterisk does voice over IP in many protocols, and can interoperate with almost all standards-based telephony equipment using relatively inexpensive hardware. Features Asterisk provides Voicemail services with Directory, Call Conferencing, Interactive Voice Response and Call Queuing. It has support for three-way calling, caller ID services, ADSI, SIP and H.323 (as both client and gateway). Check the Features section for a more complete list. Speaking as the guy everyone here seems to be going to for authoritative instructions, I am entirely and completely thrilled with Andrew's work on the kc.pm.org web site, especially with the way it has been refactored to not require continuous maintenance. -- David L Nicol E-mail is legendarily opaque to nuance and it becomes less so only with continuous honest feedback.
