I got six replies and I wrote back basically the same to all of you. Everyone knows that the Helpdesk is not the greatest gig, but it is always a foot in the door or the start of some experience. I hear about jobs through recruiters and friends all the time. I try to keep the group informed whenever something comes up that is promising. All, Thank you for the information. I have been doing a lot of reading, and its starting to come together. I did finally get something working, kind of. Below is the modeline that I finally ended up using. (via alot of trail and error) The color is fine, but there is a lot of over scan. Modeline "1280x720" 75.27 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757 No level of tweaking, got rid of the over scan. I finally decided to use the --geometry setting for mythfrontend (instructing the application to only use part of the screen, the visible part) I have a feeling that the note in the manual about not using the monitor with a PC was CYA by Toshiba. If anyone has suggestions to get rid of the over scan, I am listening. (A 12 pack of Boulevard to the person with the answer that works.) I just got a contact on some helldesk, err... helpdesk opening that pays around 16/hr. If interested, email me and I'll send the contact info. rather than spamming the list with some recruiter info. And as always, my boss is looking for a Jr. Tech. He is interviewing today 12-2 and I imagine that job will open up again in a couple of months max. Not a great job, but a foot in the door and some experience for the old resume for you recent grads and career transitioners. Send me a resume if interested in that and I'll pass it on. He holds on to resumes until the next opening if he decides on somebody.

I had to find the link, as I had discussed this with my dad at one time. http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/license-requirements.html So you can do packet, with a technicians license. I discussed this with him, because I found a bootable distro, aimed at ham users. (long since lost the link). [OT] LCD monitor repair?

Anyone here feel comfortable taking a look at the power circuitry on a 17" LCD panel or have a recommendation? The device is turning itself off for a few seconds at a time at random. X Windows Question

Hello all, I am posting here because I am looking for a local (KC area) X resource. I am currently in the final stages of building a MythTV HDTV PVR. This is the first Linux box that I have built that is not headless. (read: usually I do not work with X.) Long story short, I can get the system to output to a standard monitor without issue (X does a fine job of determining the proper resolution) However, when I attach the system to my Toshiba HDTV (via DVI) I can only get it to output 800x600 (Image falls off the screen) or 640x480 (image does not fill the screen). At this point it is my understanding that I need to build a custom modeline but for the life of me with all the reading that I have done I cannot grasp the concept. If you think that you are up the the task and interested, please let me know. On another note, I would be interested in attending a meeting, but chances are I will be out of town mid week as I travel for a living. But if I happen to be in town I look forward to attending. Web Design Needed

Rolling Hills Consolidated Library is looking for a professional web designer to redo our website. The site is currently written in simple HTML, and is a collection of hand coding and NVU/Mozilla composer created pages. We want to have the coding updated to reflect current best practices, including CSS, and have some code cleaning done. We will also be adding a few pages and looking for creative redesign of some pages, including our "teen" and "children's" pages. We might have some simple java/javascript or flash done, but nothing extensive. An absolute requirement will be that the site is OS and browser agnostic, ie, Linux/Unix/Apple (and all the others) friendly. We expect frequent communication and perhaps even an occasional in-person meeting, so our preference would be a company in the KC/St. Joseph area. I saw a TV card in CompUSA last night that output 1080i, but it was a cheapy card. Non Hauppage. You MAY need something like this to fully utilize your HDTV. The problem is not making it work with the X drivers on the system, it's making it into a product that you can deploy to an end user. This means a friendly calibration utility and configuration options tools. The free stuff from elotouch.com, the linux_public.zip file is woefully incomplete. I see you don't like 3M. These days (considering you have a newer Elo touch) you use the drivers in X. You can find how to setup the drivers at: http://www.elotouch.com/support/linux.asp The newer versions of X (4.x.x) include some Elo drivers that should work. That is what Elo suggests using. Just look for the input driver as instructed and see if it works. Otherwise, I would look up the particular model of Elo and try googling for it from there.
