But does it default to the same defaults that is typical? Minimize, Maximize, Close for button order. If it's missing, it's no longer KDE that you're using, it's some hybrid. GNOME differs because it supports and is designed able to handle changing the window manager.

Looking for MIPS hardware

I'm looking for a old MIPS machine, perferably one that powers up. Free or cheap would be excellent. I don't really care how old or how slow I just need mips 32 bit.

Sounds like the Bloch School of Business needs more Linux under the hood. If UMKC has a presence at the ITEC show, encourage them to put more Linux classes (and machines) in their curriculum. I believe that Linux has a way of gracefully restoring order to a top-down managerial-heavy environment. That oughta put the conversation back on topic. :-) -Jared

Demonstrating Video at ITEC

I wanted to demonstrate how Linux can do video, even in a low end box such as mine. Obviously you cannot show stuff you have recorded on your MythTV box. However, I have found a video about FOSS and its use in poorer countries of the world, first broadcast in May 2006. It was produced by the BBC, but they have released it under the Creative Commons license and made it available for download. "The Codebreakers A BBC World Documentary on FOSS and Development" http://www.apdip.net/news/fossdoc They have it in multiple video formats including DVD ISO (bittorrent only) and OGG video. The video is 40 minutes long so if I can find another public domain video around 20-30 minutes in size, you need only hear the FOSS documentary six times instead of nine times (three times every two hours). KCLUG Meeting Oct. 17th, ITEC details?

I wanted to be at the meeting tonight. Who is bringing the CDs and will some of them be around before ITEC starts on October 25th? Setup for ITEC begins at 8am Wednesday morning (October 25th). I'll be there unloading my demo system, "How you can revive older hardware to use Linux, even OpenOffice.org 2.0!" (PIII-600Mhz, 256MB RAM, 15GB/4GB/4GB hard drives, Debian "Etch"). I'll have to trot in a CRT as I have no other type of monitors, and it helps underline the "revive older technology" argument. I can bring along a surge strip and an extension cord or two. Do they provide tables like last time? We should work out some way to display books vertically (one short level above the table level) to fit more items on the tables. They seemed to have wireless Internet at one time in the Exhibitor Hall. I'm toying with getting a "wireless bridge" so I can use the demo system's existing wired Ethernet card to demonstrate network and Internet functions. The bridge I'm looking at is a four-port switch as well, so if we have up to four systems we can link them all together using the bridge/switch, even if there is no wireless Internet in the hall. The LDP has a document titled "Guide to Managing Media and Public Relations in the Linux Community". Booth Setup ideas

Can we ask for a convention hall table or is it just not included in the free booth? I had some ideas for setting up the booth (see attached simple JPEGs). Picture 1 is what we had last year, two tables, one on each side. Picture 2 is a different setup, using two tables but placing one on the side and one on the back, creating an open area in the middle inviting people to step inside the booth to see what we have to offer. The one on the side is the 4' table I'm bringing, leaving some open room at the back for someone to sit. The 4' table has the demo computers on it, and the table at the back has our books and CDs.
