We raised a total of $356, thanks all. Will order the controller and drives this friday. Should have enough left over to order a little ram off ebay.

Firefox sercurity questions

I've recently upgraded (if you can call it that) to SuSE 9.3 Pro, and it came with Firefox 1.0 as the default browser. Thinks started out pretty good, but now at various times my computer just seems to loose its attention. I have to click again on links and buttons, just to get it to go where I want. I don't know whether that is a result of my slow prrocessor (500 MHz k6-2) or if someone hacked into Firefox while I was online. Just curious if you guys have seen anything similar . . . ?????? Any comments on upgrading PHP4 to PHP5, on Fedora/Apache2? Client says their site is all custom built and the programmer wants to make the switch. I'd like to stick within the RPM system, but be able to switch back to 4 quickly as he finds things that break (if any).

SuSE's Online Update has the 1.04 update. It's still better to wait for SuSE to release the update and grab it that way, than using the built-in Firefox updater. If there's any differences in the way SuSE builds firefox, you'll get the 'correct' version through the YaST Online Update. Likewise, if you use the Firefox method, you do risk breaking something. Just my 2 cents. courier-imapd disconnecting and leaving stale connections

Ok, this is more an annoyance than anything else. I suspect I have something missing in my configuration for courier. Frequently while I have an imap session up it will disconnect at the server and leave the connection process up on the server. This prevents my email client from downloading anymore messages until I either close the email client, and the browser if it is Mozilla/ Thunderbird. Or by kill -SIGHUP of the offending process. I'm forcing imap over a secure connection and using a 9xx port. This doesn't happen with local connection that squirrelmail uses. Anyone experience similar behavior? RoadRunner outages

Anybody else seeing outages on RoadRunner in the early morning hours? I've noticed it for several weeks - being six hours ahead in England, 2:00 - 5:00 AM here is 8:00 - 11:00 there, prime time to connect. I'm wondering if it's something in the nightly maintenance run on this old PC that runs the firewall. Never used to bother it that I know of, but the timing's right. It's running RH 7.3. I need to find a way of snapshotting the load on it in the wee hours when I don't want to be up.
