LCD repair?

Anyone here handy enough to do LCD repair? To make a long story short, I get no display on my laptop anymore... well, I get a tad, but seems the backlight isn't kicking on. I figure I'd buy a backlight and replace it for the heck of it.<tearing that display apart was a damn learning experience.... why does it take 500+ screws to hold this thing together?!> Still no light coming on. I can see the display on the LCD very faintly, so I know something is getting out there. Could it be the power inverter that is going out as well? Is there any way to test that? I'd hate to keep buying random parts until it fixes it. Are there any local shops that would fix it? I saw a link to a backlight repair on a desktop LCD on digg.com last week. There were decent pictures and instructions. The author used a cold cathode to repair it. Anyone has any idea why the Kcata Trip Planner is Windows/IE only, despite the fact that it is a server side application: http://68.166.86.20/etripplanner/ Just curious. -- As a boy I jumped through Windows, as a man I play with Penguins.

Over the years we have established ad-hoc posting rules. Many things are still debated but the ones we agreed on are: * Do not top post. Put your reply below the quoted parts of the message. * Trim your posts. Only quote those parts of the message relevant to your reply. Message line width is generally 72 characters if using plain text format. If you are re-wrapping someone else's quote and your MUA makes it difficult to read, it's your responsibility to reformat it. These guidelines exist in order to put the onus of making an email legible on the author of an email rather than on the hundred or so people that might read it. Hey Guys, I'm sure most of you already know this, but for the ones that don't: 1) Top posting has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals. 2) Not trimming your post is a sure fire way to get audited by the IRS. 3) Historically on the Internet, as defined in RFC 1855, it is considered good netiquette to bottom post, NOT top post. People who do not follow good netiquette guidelines have been known to be ridiculed, beaten with Nerf bats, and to occasionally disappear in the night as if they were taken by ninjas. 4) This thread is really getting on most peoples nerves.
