Gentoo currently has the gentoo-dev-sources defined as the 2.6.x series, 
so that appears to be where they are testing all kinds of fun patches.

The 2.4 series seems to be extremely stable, yet much slower and without 
all the nice extras of 2.6.  I'll miss it for now....
