got a freebie -- don't know if I can get it to work or not. Acer Prisa 620A scanner, PPort interface. No s/w (as if I wanted Winblows!!). Wonder if anybody has tried a non-SCSI scanner with SANE or other program. If this doesn't work, I'll just give it to someone with a (pardon my grossness) Windows machine.
