Question about networking.

Choose a hostname that isn't attached to your dynadns.  Say you use
hollycow.mydomain.com, then set up the local machine to use for all non
network services hollycow.localdomain.  Then your prompts and such look
correct, but KDE, GNome and the like don't complain.
