I had a similiar problem, I could print a test page but couldn't print 
anything from an application.  I remembered that USB had two versions 
1.1 and 2.0 so I went and bought a 5-port USB 2.0 PCI card and replaced 
the old one (which must have been a 1.1) and then I could print anything 
from any computer to my hp deskjet 990cse.
