I've heard that Philadelphia is implementing a
city-wide free 2Mbps wireless network (possibly
11Mbps).

My father tells me that New York has a lot of "ad-hoc"
free wireless access points (someone has placed a WAP
in their apartment window), as well as some parks
which feature free wireless access.
