I thought you were kidding about a near-KCI Airport location!

I thought I might drive up that way tomorrow. I was going to head up to
Surplus Exchange anyway. Yes, not quite in the same area as the airport
meeting location, but my evening is free and it still gets dark around
5pm these days.
I'll be bringing a tape recorder (one of the dictaphone types with the
voice-activated microphones) so I can recite what I see. Then I'll give
a better example of "dark city" landmarks. Perhaps an MP3/OGG for the
website, though that might encourage "hamming for the camera". :)
"And as you approach the exit, you will see a burning truck surrounded by
firefighters just ahead of the exit, though this may be a one-day
event..."
That actually happened to me once. I was driving into KC from Lawrence
for the very first time, I was looking for a location in Independence, I
had no real instructions other than a map, and no one had explained that
it was possible to drive in a complete circle around KC while never
leaving I-435. So all the landmarks were foreign to me, I had never seen
any of the terrain. So I enter from K10, and head North. I pass under
an unmarked overpass with some fairly distinctive trees. I drive in a
complete circle around KC on I-435.
As I'm returning to the same overpass, I am thrown off thinking that it
was an overpass I had already been to that day by a *burning truck* just
beyond the overpass. The truck had pulled onto the shoulder and caught
on fire during the hour-long circle I had driven around KC, and made the
same overpass I'd been under already, look different. If I hadn't really
thought about the trees, I might have made another circle around KC.
