Obviously, the GPL does not require that you distribute it to EVERYONE.
This would, as Hal said, be a disincentive to develop... However, if it
is licensed to all third parties, and one of these third parties
requests the source code, how much of a burden is that?  Maybe when five
or six a day start making the same request... I think that is why most
companies just go ahead and post the sources online.  As for me, I would
be perfectly happy to agree with Hal if I heard the same thing from THE
MAN himself.  I would still like to see the code, but I think getting a
reply from Linus or RMS would be just as cool.  Funny/Sad thing is, I
realized after I sent the first one off that Linus is on a hiatus from
Transmeta (and I didn't even think to search for direct contact info for
RMS).
