date shows the software time, hwclock shows the hardware time.
The hardware time is usually set to GMT, and software to the local
timezone.  In Linux, the software clock is set from the hardware clock
on boot.  If you dual boot, the other OS might be resetting the hardware
clock to the local timezone.  You can see where this might cause problems.
~  If you have both set to the local timezone, some programs might try to
adjust themselves to GMT.
