Nope his laptop isn't listed as one of the supported/
certified HP laptops. Still I'd recommend in order of 
my personal preference:
1)Mandrake 9.1
2)RedHat 9 (Wow! have you seen the price for the Pro version!?)
3)debian 3
4)gentoo
5)TurboLinux 8
