I don't know whether to cry or laugh.
For those who don't want to read the whole message, I tried installing
Yahoo on SuSE and got an error. Yahoo! India customer care wrote me back
telling me how to install it on Windows.

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! India Customer Care.
It appears that another program that is running on your computer is
getting in the way of the Yahoo! Messenger installation. To fix this
problem, you'll need to turn off all of the other programs and then try
installing the Yahoo! Messenger again. You won't lose your friend list,
as that is stored on our servers.
Windows 95/98
1. Shutdown and restart your computer.
2. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL on your keyboard. This will bring up the Close
Program window.
3. You will see a list of files/ programs. These are the programs
running the background on your system, whether they show on your taskbar
or not. Explorer is the Windows 95 operating system. Systray is the
System tray / taskbar manager. All other items on the list are outside
programs which could be interfering with the Messenger installation.
4. One at a time, click each item in the list to highlight it and then
click the End Task button. You will need to press CTRL+ALT+DEL each time
to bring up the Close Program window again. If at any time you get a
message that a program is Not Responding, click End Task. (Note: By
clicking the End Task button, you are not removing or deleting any
programs, just turning them off. They will all come back then next time
you restart your machine.)
5. On rare occasions, End-Tasking on a program can cause the system to
reboot. If you experience this, you will need to start from the
beginning, but this time do not End Task that particular program.
6. Once you have the Close Program window clear except for Explorer and
Systray (don't worry if you don't have Systray), click Cancel to close
the Close Program window.
7. Try installing the Messenger again. You should not experience the
same problem.
8. Once the Messenger is installed, restart your system. All of your
background applications will return to their original configurations.
Windows NT/2000
1. Shutdown and restart your computer.
2. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL on your keyboard. This will bring up the Windows
NT security window. Click the Task Manager button and then click the
Task Manager tab.
3. You will see a list of files/programs. These are the programs running
the background on your system, whether they show on your taskbar or not.
Any one of these programs could be causing a conflict with the Pager
installation.
4. Click the top item on the list to highlight it. Then hold the Shift
key down and click the last item on the list. This should highlight the
whole list.
5. Click the End Task button. This will temporarily close all background
applications on your system.
6. Click the X in the upper right hand corner to close the Task Manager
window.
7. Install the Yahoo! Messenger. The Installation should now proceed
correctly.
8. Once you have Messenger installed, restart your system. All of your
background applications will then return to their original settings.
If this method does not work for you, please include the error message
itself (if any) and all details (copy and paste them into your email)
when writing back.
Regards,
Yahoo! India Customer Care

I follow your directions for installing Yahoo IM
on SuSE (I'm using version 8.2).
The command you give me is:
linux:/tmp/downloads # rpm -i -nodeps
ymessenger-0.99.19-1.i386.rpm
-nodeps: unknown option
I get an error telling me -nodeps is an unknown
option. I try it without the -nodeps and get this
message:
linux:/tmp/downloads # rpm -i
ymessenger-0.99.19-1.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
