This is a myth. The tests that made this faulty conclusion 
were later found to be unreliable. The batteries were drained
to the same level of discharge and then recharged. This is
unlikely to occur in real-life. But if you drain and recharge
Ni-Cads to the same level consistently then you may build up
a "memory".
