Run whatever software you want.  Most people start out by using
the same types of software that they were running MS Windows,
or whatever your main OS is.

Everyone in the group has their own favorite distro.  There's
pretty much one of every major distro and several minor ones.

My distro preferences are Debian and Gentoo.  I'm a sysadmin,
so I like the distros that are targeted at power users.

I recommend trying a few and see which one you feel the most
comfortable with.

All,
Speaking of which, and in the same vein as adding new features
to the website, what about a page that group members can post
their favorite distro(s) and write why they prefer it/them.
This kind of thing seems to popup often.
