DVD writing?

It all depends on what your final bitrate is for the MPEG2 file.  I did a
bit of testing with SVCDs, but I had major problems with video artifacts.  I
keep meaning to go back and tweak my conversion script to see if I can get
it right, but I never seem to find the time.  With MPEG1 (for VCD), 1 minute
of video takes up around 10MB.  I have been using mjpegtools along with
dvgrab, kino, and vdcimager to convert my home movies to VCD.  I have had
great success with this.
