ability to send outgoing mail via SMTP. The server he must go through
to do so, however, is an Exchange server (not sure exactly what
version). Has anyone been able to get this to work? I know it
supposedly doesn't work with Outlook Express, but it does with their
"professional" e-mail clients, like outlook 2k and xp. Or is there some
sort of syntax (<SMTP:x at y.z>) format he can use to get it to work?

In order to get Evolution to connect to Exchange you have to buy the
commercial Ximian Connector software. If the Exchange server has IMAP
and SMTP emmulation enabled, you can use any software to access it
including Outlook Express (ew!).
