Netscape 7

I used to think I was a computer professional.  Now, I just feel stupid.  :)

I've been using, playing and experimenting with computers since my dad got a
Digital Group computer back in the mid-70s.  I'm now paid to be a SQL DBA.

So why can't I do a simple install/upgrade on my Linux workstation!!

ARGH! :)

Yesterday, I upgraded my workstation from RedHat 7.3 to RedHat 8.0 with the
CD I picked up at ITEC (Thank you very much!!! :)

As a test of using Linux in an actual corporate environment with OpenOffice
instead of MS Office97, I wanted to tap into our DMS (document management
system) extranet to see if I could function as a normal end user working on
documents, spreadsheets and presentations and still communicate these
documents with the rest of the office.

Well, the "approved" browsers for this DMS extranet are MS IE (of course :(
) and Netscape.  Netscape was already installed but I couldn't get logged
in.  So, I thought I should upgrade it to the newest release (7.x), which I
did.

However, even though the installer worked and launched Netscape 7, now when
I try to launch Netscape, I only get version 4.79.  What happened to 7?

The installation program installed it to /usr/local/netscape as far as I can
tell.  But the other version, 4.79, is in /usr/bin, I think, which is higher
up in the path statement (I'm just fishing here, I'm still learning where
everything resides in Linux).

Oh, and the real kicker to this story, Netscape 7 didn't fix my ability to
login to the DMS extranet.  After digging around at their tech website, I
found a tech note that said this is a known issue and the fix is to upgrade
my DMS!!! Another ARGH!!

So, it's really not critical that I do anything with Netscape 7, but I would
like to know what I did wrong with the upgrade/installation.
