What's wrong with the market?

Heh I'll tell you what's wrong with the market: I'm a highly certified
and experienced network engineer and unix admin. I have solaris admin
cert, ccnp cert (working on ccie) and many other certs. Combined with ten
years experience I should in theory be employable just about anywhere
within an IT organization. In reality I've been out of work since
January, only been on three interviews, everyone thought my salary
expectations were too high at 60k/year when in fact at my previous job I
was making closer to 80k/year. Companies don't like to hire the
unemployed, they'd rather hired away from another company. The longer I'm
out of work the more it is going to hurt me in the job search. I am
seriously starting to think this whole industry is for the birds.

So at this point if someone calls and offers me a job, that's great, but I
don't realistically expect to get an IT job this year in the industry.

I'm changing careers to financial services. I'm almost done with all my
securities licensing and then I'll be an agent for Primerica Financial
Services. The all commission job is extremely tough, but the rewards are
great and at least I can't get fired. I'd be willing to show anyone here
whom is interested in how to benefit from becoming an agent.

If Primerica/Citigroup doesn't work out the way I envision it, which I
doubt will happen, my back up plan is to go back to school to become a
math teacher. The pay would really suck, but at least I'll be making a
difference in someone's life.

I apologize for the rant, but the original person who had the nerve to ask
what is wrong with the market really hit me hard. I'm putting my house up
for sale this month because I only have so much savings to live off of
before everything is gone. I'm not going to apologize for using this list
to further my own financial goals though considering I pay for all this
out of my own pocket and will continue to do so even though I'm
unemployed. This I do because the LUG is important to me.

	Mike
