mandrake's mods to the OS (was Re: New distro)

Just my $0.02,

I used the 'Drake update in Mandrake 8.0 to update my kernel, and had no
problems.  The problem that everyone is talking about (and yes, I made the
same mistake) only showed up in 8.1.  It may be that the problem is with the
update, and not with the update system.  Don't really know, but it cost my
my / partition.  UGLY!

That's ok, I wanted to try a different distro anyway :-)
