mandrake's mods to the OS (was Re: New distro)

Yep, did them both at one point in time.

Updated kernel. result ... broken system. fix format HD partitions, 
reinstall operating system. Thank Goodness /home on own partitions.

Updated rpms after resolving dependencies, but still had conflicts
solution --force. result, system works some utilities broken. Need to
pull down db3 and compile yet.

Update on new distro. Downloaded linuxfromscratch and gentoo linux
yesterday. Asked Ximian to use their gnome branch. Will be studying this
week.
