Battle for bandwidth

Hello,

I am new to this group again. About six months ago I unsubscribed so now I'm back.

I'm sure that you are all aware of the battle going on right now between the tech guys like myself
and you folks. Right now they are battling because every PC you plug in they want you to pay for.
Reciently I asked them why that is. The response I got went something like this:

Cable Modem tech: We charge you for the extra banwidth that it takes for the extra PC.

ME: Ok but you aren't providing me with any extra bandwith if I hit the max no matter if it is one
PC or two you aren't providing me with anything.

CMT: Yes sir but we also provide you with a second IP address.

ME: Yes you do but right now your system is failing to assign a second IP and if I could just get
the Linux support for DNS on your system (like they used to provide for a static IP) then I could
just run that!"

CMT: We do not provide support for Linux because they are only a small piece of the user group.
(And they wern't going to say it I know but they also don't like the fact that linux makes a pretty
cheap and easy router)

ME: OK all I want is to hook up this PC to the internet and I don't care anymore I'll pay the 7
bucks and not worry about it.

CMT: Currently because of a change in service from the "@yo momas place" to the "werestupid.net" we
can't support more that one IP.

ME: So how am I supposed to hook up two PC's then!

CMT: Well sir you can get a router and hook that up. (Well then provide the instructions for easy
DHCP for your system) That will allow you to add the extra PC's

ME: But you people have told me numerous times that is a violation of terms of service?

CMT: Well yes but not if you pay for the extra PC's

Summary: Well isn't this nice for the cable modem companies. Not only do they make more money for
each PC but they don't do anything for it. (This argument could be made for software too but you do
gain the ability to use that software on another PC) In this case they are taking dollars from me
and then pushing everything on the users. They don't provide extra IP because my router is the only
thing connecting to them. And what my processor on my router does with that information such as
pass packets to another pc is none of their business.

Just putting this out for all to see. If there is anyone who is interested in taking this up with
me and putting it to these cable modem companies email me.

We won the software battle and well win this to. You want to know why? Because were smarter than
they are!!

If you found the above comment offensive then your playing for the wrong team!!
