loading or installing net module

Another possibility is that the nic has been set to a set state from the
previous OS. You might try booting from a dos floppy and resetting the
nic with the 3com utility diskette. I had this problem with a few 3com
nics. Or pull down Donald Becker's nic utilities and see if it can
actually communicate with the nic.
