gcc compiler problems

Well, I Just downgraded my binutils to binutils-2.10.0.24-4mdk, and
everything seems fine now!  I can compile with no problem.  Of course, I
don't think that the code compiles correctly!  But at least I can
compile!  What version of gcc should I be using?
