The /mbr switch does not remove your partition information.

It also doesn't give you any response but the command prompt.

I will try the /mbr trick, again. Actually I already tried it to no 
avail because I remembered hearing about that trick for a dead HD -- 
one that could not respond to the DOS/WIN boot and left the computer 
in suspended animation. 

I don't know why it didn't work. Maybe I accidently used mbr 
instead. Whatever the case, the computer didn't complain.

I'll let you know if it works. My goal, if it is a wise one, is to 
split the 2.5 in half or so  1 gig for windows and 1.5 gig for Linux. 

If all goes well, and I get to donate my windows apps. to friends 
because I can get top drawer Linux equivalents, I may even let Linux 
conquer the whole hard disk.

You mean.... Microsoft isn't the world leader in technological 
innovation? I thought I wanted Linux 'cause its free and I am a 
cheapskate. ;)
