I see that you've gotten a bit further than this, but it's worth bearing
in mind for future reference the interaction between your system's
onboard ROMs and what's on the SCSI card.  In some cases, you need to
tell the mobo that it has no HD at all, and let the SCSI adapter's BIOS
take it from there.
