Hello all,
It seems we’ve run into a little trouble with our typical meetup spot. It’s been booked this month, and it’s also booked up next month, so it looks like we’re searching for another spot. I’ve been looking around that same area but haven’t found a place that seems like the right fit yet.
Does anyone have any ideas for us?
I would say I don’t mind hosting at my place, but I’m all the way out in Blue Springs, which might be kind of far for the whole group to commute to.

Jcl does not allow people to book same day so if anyone uses it it'll just be walk-in. I was going to try to make it but I kind of feel like these meetings are coming quickly and out of the blue and that makes it hard for me to work them into my schedule. I think maybe once a month The third Monday of the month for example would be a good cadence until we've gone a couple years with at least four people in person at each meeting.

Once a month sounds great. I should be able to make that.
That’s fair feedback.
It definitely wasn’t my intent for these to feel like they were coming out of the blue. I’ve generally been trying to follow the schedule posted on the main website, and for the recent meetings we’ve been aiming for the third Thursday of the month. This one got a little messier because we had to change locations, but the date itself was the one we had been working from.
That said, I agree that we should make the cadence and communication clearer. A predictable monthly schedule would probably help a lot, whether that stays as third Thursday or moves to something like third Monday.
For tonight, I’m inclined to keep the room since we already have it, and I’ve been cooped up working from home all day anyway. If a few people can make it, great. If turnout is light, we can use the time to talk through better ways to schedule, announce, and plan future meetings.

Before I reserve the room, I’d like to make sure we have a few people planning to come out. The librarian I spoke with was very kind and understanding, but I also don’t want us to get in the habit of reserving rooms and then not using them.
If you think you can make the June 18 meeting, please reply and let us know. If it looks like we’ll have a few people there, I’ll go ahead and reserve the room. I also attached an .ics calendar file for the June 18 meeting. Hopefully, that makes it a little easier to get it onto everyone’s calendar.

The website was updated by script, and since covid the meetings kind of puttered out and i took forgranted to ignore the website, but Ishoudn't. I see the website has been updated even to reflect today's cancellation now. Is someone updating this by hand in $EDITOR ?
I was thinking of starting a shared Google Calendar for KCLUG and embedding the agenda/list view of that calendar on kclug.org, where today the plain text bulleted list appears. I'm also happy to use any other calendar service that's not Google if it also has group editing and embeddable event list views.

fine. Totally right... a *oog** calendar would definitely not be painful enough to use. What was I thinking... I went and made a bespoke new calendar element for kclug.org just for us, with a list view and grid view and it even supports cancellations.

Mine is driven from a plaintext events.txt file, and produces an ics link that works on a corporate massively popular wildly functional and reliable web based calendar application from a silly Mountain View tech startup that shall not be named lest we have to hear how evil they are, and the ics file probably also works in, whatever else you use. I've dawned my asbestos undergarment and am ready to hear how bad my calendar element is from others (who will be implicitly volunteering to write a better one).

Thanks for all your hard work. I myself cannot code worth anything. I've tried several times to learn Rust and Python, but no fruitful results.
We actually have an iCal file on the site. I added it a very long time ago.
