A 175mhz Alpha is slow unless you're doing pure number crunching. Reason
is the SCSI I/O, the bus, the video....
I have an EISA dec alpha 150 and the thing is dog slow, even slower than a
166 multia. At this point, I consider these kinds of boxes something to play
with. The real work gets done with newer motherboards using the Intel
Architecture.
BTW, what clustered app is going to be run on the box? Will it be part of a
beowulf?
